AN ANALYSIS ON THE ATHLETIC INJURY PATTERN

Abstract
This study was carried out to obtain the basic data of injury pattern by the types¢¥, of sports. For 3 months, 305 college students who are participated in the team (108 persons) and the ¢¥, individual sports (194 persons) have been investigated to the type, onset time, severity, portion, and causative factor of injury and to the amount of exercise.
The results are summarized as followings;
1. In the types of injury, muscle cramp, muscle contusion, sprain, and abrasion are more frequent than others, and then muscle cramp and contusion are mainly induced by the team sports, while abrasion and sprain are mainly by the individual sports.
2. The average amount of exercise in the investigated students is 1.5hr./day, which is not signifi
cantly different between the groups in the team sports and the-individual sports.
3. The attack of injury is onset during the period when the warming-up is concluded and the¢¥ exercises
are peaked.
4. The severity of injury is relatively slight, so almost injuries are treated simply in home or overlooked.
5. The portions received the injury are commonly the upper extremities in the team sports and the I o were-extremities in the individual sports. Male students have commonly received the injury to the upper-extremities, while females have received to the lower-extremities. Functionally, the injuries have been attacked on the articular portions in extremities.
6. The causative factors of injury is the abnormal physical conditions (25.4%), incomplete warming up (16.5%), carelessness activity (15.6%), poor-adjusted instruments or fields (12 7%) in order.
¢¥7. During the investigated period (3 months), the incidence of injury is 2.3 cases/person in the team sports and 0.9 cases/person in the individual sports. There are non-significant difference between the male¢¥s incidence (I.5 cases/person) and female¡¯s (1.2 cases,/person).
